History and Origin Info: The history of the Xico strain is not definitive and nobody really knows. Exactly how the strain came to be on the market? There’s is some evidence that back in 2007 it was acquired.
On the forum Shroomery a member named “Farbo” was posting images of Psilocybe cubensis
mushrooms he found in Xico, Veracruz, sometime around 2007. He was hunting the spores from the strain and was looking to make contacts. This may have been the first encounter with “the Xico strain.”
Also the famous American mycologist Alan Rockefeller found a sample of the variety and created some spore prints. The spores were then isolated using agar transfer techniques and cultivated — the resulting “clean” spores were printed and sent around to the vendors.
To contradict this story entirely, other reports suggest that the strain was collected back in 2018 from a patch of cow dung in a field just outside the city of Xico.
